The Gouda and FIB sales office in Bochum, Germany, is working flat out! The office has not only brought Gouda Vuurvast into contact with Borealis, but has also acquired a complex commission for FIB Industries. FIB Industries' work for its new client, the Bilfinger international engineering consultancy firm, will offer its staff an opportunity to demonstrate their skills !
A major chemical company uses a heavy duty kneader to mix a number of ingredients with great force. The middle section of this kneader needs to be replaced, a challenge – a truly major challenge – that FIB is pleased to accept. The challenge lies in the fact that almost no documentation is available – just a drawing with the main dimensions! Moreover, as the existing kneader is still in full production the internal parts, kneader blades and the drive of the operational will soon all need to be transferred seamlessly to the new middle section – and all working against the clock, as a production line of this nature cannot be shut down for long.
Old and new next to each other
The complexity of the commission is not the only reason why this job is so difficult: the dimensioning is also very precise – and all with this wall thickness! The parties maintain close contacts, and TÜV carries out a fortnightly inspection round: nothing is left to chance. It's a question of continually measuring and checking. The supreme moment is approaching quickly: the German machine will be dismantled and the kneading heads and lid will be transported to Leeuwarden, the Netherlands, to machine the parts ready for assembly in the new middle section. The heads and the lid will then be fitted, and the entire unit will be returned to the German plant like greased lightning. A top performance!
